Chemical Applicator – Aurora

Reports to: Plant Health Care Manager

Based at: Aurora Corporate Office

Key responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Duties and Job-Related Skillset:

  • Apply a variety of products involved in the upkeep and maintenance of landscape ornamentals, maintained native grass areas, and turfgrass.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment related to the applicator process. Ride on spreaders, push behind spreaders, chest/hand spreaders, spray backpacks, and applicator guns.
  • Required to record all paperwork and recordkeeping involved with the EPA and Colorado Department of Agriculture involved in the process to which they are completing to satisfy State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment involved the position, this includes truck, tankers, equipment (spreaders, utility vehicles, backpack sprays etc.)
  • Will be trained in the working knowledge of Personal Protective equipment, and it’s use.
  • Be intensive on detail, and attentive in the work process. Especially at times of mixing and loading of products, as this is when the most accidents and mistakes of this industry can be made.
  • We are at our core a service industry, must be personable and kind when dealing with customers and adversity.
  • Must be able to read an EPA regulated pesticide label, Spanish and English can be made available per request.
  • Must understand measurements and the process involved in conversions and general math on finding the area of 2 dimensional vectors.
  • Be willing to learn, and capable.
  • Must be self-motivated to work efficiently without continuous supervision or instruction and the ability to critically assess situations as they arise.
  • Confidently operate a truck with a spray rig in the bed and a trailer with more equipment and or rigs.
  • Efficiently relay any important information regarding our sites at the time of service to our project managers or department head. Plant health is often the last line of contact for our green material and ornamentals. We are responsible for vigor, and plant success at that point. After training will be asked to stay conscientious of our properties and any tentative problems.

Job Requirements:

  • Three years of pesticide application required
  • Driving is an integral part of the position, a license is required, with a clean MVR.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 100 pounds

Preferred Requirements:

  • A Qualified Supervisor or Certified Operator license in CDA categories 109, 206, and 207 would be beneficial but not immediately required.
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Three years of Landscaping Experience preferred

Work Environment:

  • Reads and understands instructions; writes legible work reports and notes; communicates information and responds to questions individually and in small groups
  • Must be able to operate a cell phone
  • Performs simple mathematical calculations by hand or using a calculator
  • Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple written and oral instructions; deals with standardized situations or problems involving a few concrete variables
  • Physical activities include working in a confined space, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and lifting for periods of time in various individual conditions.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions including cold, snow, rain, ice, and heat. May be exposed to odors, smoke, noise, vibrations, dust, intense light, and chemicals including cleaners, solvents, paints, and other toxic agents
